Laura Walker, owner of the Walker Company, serves as a consultant to organizations that are working to achieve breakthroughs in quality, responsiveness, flexibility and cost by transforming the way they do business.
Ms. Walker's twelve years in the corporate environment provided her with extensive experience dealing with the realities of making changes while continuing daily operations. As a manager at The Boeing Company's corporate headquarters delivering technology services to headquarters executives, she led customers through planning for the strategic use of technology while providing day-to-day computing services. Ms. Walker gained a reputation for being able to serve as a liaison and translator between the customer and technologists and for being skilled at evaluating the capacity of technology to impact a business process.
As a consultant to organizations, Ms. Walker brings solid business and technical experience to her clients' environments. Many of her clients have used the conceptual and tactical methodology she developed for business process/information technology change; a methodology that includes an “involvement strategy” that moves an organization along from a cultural/organizational point of view as well as from the operational aspect.
Additionally, Ms. Walker has skills in the Organizational Development and Leadership Development areas. Because improvement projects take place within the context of an organization’s culture, a consultant who works in this field must be able to handle the inevitable organizational/team/individual issues, which arise.
Each of Ms. Walker’s consulting assignments has required that she be a quick study of the business in order to leverage staff knowledge into a project structure that works for the organization. This includes assimilating the perspectives of all levels of the organization from executive management to clerk/administrative to union type positions. She views this accumulation of private and public sector, cross-industry experience as an asset that allows her to incorporate best practices from these different sectors into engagements with current and future clients.
